With the energy Nigeria filmmakers are channelling into movie making, you’re often spoilt for the choice of film to see the next time you’re going to the theatres or swiping through your favourite streaming platform.
No doubt, the Nigerian film industry is brimming with loads of output. This is unsurprising as Nollywood has maintained the record for being the second-highest producer of films on the globe.
For this weekend’s TFC Lists, here are five Nollywood movies you should not miss.
1. The Trade
The Trade is a Jade Osiberu film, it follows the story of a notorious cunning kidnapper, who has ravaged the southern part of Nigeria for over a decade.
The film stars Blossom Chukwujekwu, Stan Nze, Rita Dominic, Ali Nuhu, Nengi Adoki, Waje, Chiwetalu Agu, Uru Eke, Gideon Okeke, Denola Grey, amongst others.
The Trade is now Showing in Cinemas Nationwide.
2. The Wait
The Wait is a 2021 Nigerian faith-based drama film directed by Yemi Morafa and Fiyin Gambo. The film stars Nse Ikpe Etim, Deyemi Okanlawon, Jimmy Odukoya, Ini Dima-Okojie, Meg Otanwa, Chimezie Imo and Aisha Sanni-Shittu in the lead roles. The film is based on God’s Waiting Room, a faith-based book written by Yewande Zaccheaus.
The lives of two couples, a job seeker, and a passionate doctor, intertwine in a tale of patience and redemption.
The Wait is now streaming on Netflix.
3. To Freedom
Produced by Kevwe Ogunjemilua and directed by Biodun Stephen. The movie stars Osas Ighodaro, Daniel Etim Effiong, Beverly Osu, Jide Kosoko, Elvina Ibru and Eso Dike.
The movie is about love and patience and it’s now streaming in Cinemas Nationwide.
4. How To Love Me
“How To Love Me” is a 1 hour, 29mins drama directed by Ekene Som Mekwunye.
The movie follows the story of Emem, who has been hatching up on a perfect escape plan from her abusive husband. She gets the news of her husband’s involvement in a ghastly Accident.
After several months in the hospital, Uduak regains consciousness but not with his memory, Emem takes the opportunity to curate a perfect Uduak until he regains his consciousness.
The movie stars Ik Ogbonna, Yvonne Jegede, Bassey Ekpo and is now showing on Prime Video.
5. Help Mate
When reality negates expectations, a newly wedded couple must accept the actuality of imperfections and thrive for the success of their marriage.
Help Mate is a Biodun Stephen’s direction, it stars Blessing Jessica Obasi, Stan Nze, Uzor Arukwe and is streaming on Showmax.
