Nollywood filmmakers have saddled themselves with the responsibility of making movies with plots depicting African witchcraft, and the existence of supernatural powers.
Arguably, Nollywood movies have successfully made some movie lovers – in their African mind – believe in supernatural powers, and on the other side of the coin, some movie lovers believe that whatever comes on the screen is fictitious.
For this weekend’s TFC Lists, here are five Nollywood movies on supernatural powers you should not miss.
1. Sylvia
From the stables of Trino Motion Pictures, Sylvia is a 2018 movie directed by Daniel Oriahi about a man, who after deciding to embrace adulthood and marry his girlfriend, his longtime imaginary friend tries to destroy his peaceful life.
With Kaghor Crowther Idhebor having cinematography credit, the movie is currently streaming on Prime Video.
2. The Ghost And The Tout Too
Released in September 2021, Micheal Akinrogunde’s directorial tells the story of a young lady who grew up in a Ghetto and met with a ghost after an unfortunate incident. Soon after, her life is thrown into a series of dramas that only she can see and understand.
Staring Toyin Abraham, Mercy Johnson Okojie, Osas Ighodaro, Destiny Etiko, Ini Edo, Deyemi Okanlawon, The Ghost And The Tout Too is streaming on Netflix.
3. My Village People
Now streaming on Netflix, a selfish womaniser finds himself in bubbling hot water after his reckless lifestyle accidentally attracts the attention of a coven of witches.
My Village People is a 2021 Niyi Akinmolayan’s direction written by Bovi Ugboma.
4. Nneka The Pretty Serpent
Nneka The Pretty Serpent is a 2020 remake movie directed by Tosin Igho and Zeb Ejiro.
Years after the mysterious murder of her parents, a traumatised woman gains supernatural powers that aid in her quest for revenge against the killers.
The movie can be streamed on Netflix.
5. Day Of Destiny (D.O.D)
Produced by Akujobi Victoria and Isioma Osaje, directed by Abosi Ogba and Akhigbe Ilozobhie, DOD is a 2021 movie starring Olumide Oworu, Denola Grey, Norbert Young. Toyin Abraham and Ireti Doyle.
With their family facing financial woes, two teenage brothers seize an opportunity to reverse their bad fortunes by travelling 20 years back in time. Day Of Destiny is also showing on Netflix.
