Nollywood adventure films revolve around conquests and explorations. In most cases, the purpose of the conquest can be to retrieve a person or treasure, but often the main focus is simply the pursuit of the unknown.
The Nigerian film industry, known as Nollywood, has exploded in the last two decades. Now the industry is one of the most popular in the world, with different genres like drama, thriller and others.
For this weekend’s TFC Lists, here are five amazing Nollywood family dramas that you must watch as a film lover.
- Three Thieves
Three Thieves is a 2019 Nigerian movie directed by Udoka Oyeka, written by Egbemawei Sammy, Abba Makama and Africa Ukoh, and produced by Trino Motion Pictures.
It was released across Cinemas on October 4, 2019.
Frustrated at work, three young men use a case of mistaken identity to pull off a seemingly simple crime – but their scheme comically unravels. The movie is currently streaming on Netflix.
- One Lagos Night
One Lagos Night is a comedy-drama that follows the story of a desperate man that attempts to burglarize the home of a wealthy woman but finds himself face to face with a crew of armed robbers who has the same idea.
Directed by Ekeke Som Mekwunye, the 2021 movie is currently showing on Netflix.
- Gone
Gone is a Daniel Ademinokan’s direction with Adeniji Adeniyi, Obi Emelonye, Joy Odiete and Daniel Ademinokan sharing screenplay credit is a 2021 movie about Ani, who leaves his wife, a 2-year-old daughter and an unborn son back in Nigeria in search for a better life in New York City, he suddenly vanishes without a trace.
25 years later, he returns to reclaim his wife and family but nothing is the same as everyone thought he was dead, and his family is in the hands of another man.
- Sugar Rush
Also a 2019 film, Sugar Rush tells the story of Tracey who is aware that her husband is cheating but carried on as normal until she found a way to hurt him. However, she discovers that she might not get away with her crime.
Having made N287 million at the box office, the movie starred Adesua Etomi; Bisola Aiyeola; Bimbo Ademoye and was directed by Kayode Kasum. It’s currently streaming on Netflix.
- Fate Of Alakada
Faking her way through any situation, a social media influencer poses as an event planner and is tasked with throwing an extravagant, star-studded party.
Written by Moshood Yakubu Olawale and Ozioma Ogbaji, and directed by Kayode Kasum.
The film stars Toyin Abraham, Mercy Eke and Broda Shaggi in the lead roles. It was also the sequel to the 2017 comedy film “Alakada Reloaded” and is streaming currently on Netflix.
