Yoruba epic movie ‘Agesinkole: King of Thieves‘ has grossed approximately N42,659,350 in the first three days of its release in cinemas across the country, the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), has said.
In the weekend box office table published on the official website of CEAN, ‘Agesinkole: King of Thieves‘, displaced Hollywood movies, ‘Morbius’ and ‘Sonic: The Hedgehog’ to become the highest-grossing movie.

‘Agesinkole: King of Thieves‘, the first epic movie collaboration by Femi Adebayo’s Euphoria 360 and Niyi Akinmolayan’s Anthill Studios is an unusual genre that stormed cinemas on April 8.
The epic movie ‘Agesinkole: King of Thieves‘ , which has been reviewed by The Film Conversation tells the story of Ajeromi, a prosperous ancient Yoruba kingdom, living in peace and merriments until the invasion of a ferocious and monstrous Ageshinkole (Femi Adebayo), a thief that has a reason for stealing.
Apart from Femi Adebayo playing the lead role, the movie ‘Agesinkole: King of Thieves‘ comes with an impressive and notable lineup of Yoruba stars. Ògúndábède has Toyin Abraham, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Chatta, Adedimeji Lateef, Peju Ogunmola, Dele Odule, Adebayo Salami, Ebun Oloyede, Aisha Lawal, Debo Adebayo (Mr Macaroni) and Samuel A Perry (Broda Shaggi) in supporting roles.
The epic drama scripted by Yinka Laoye from a story by Femi Adebayo and directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo Salami is majorly in Yoruba language, with English narration by Segun Arinze and English subtitling.
‘Agesinkole: King of Thieves‘ in Ibadan and Abeokuta despite being released during a Ramadan weekend sold out in some cinemas in Ibadan and Abeokuta, which proves that contents that promote and display Nigerian culture have a place in the local and international community.

With the acceptance from viewers, positive word-of-mouth and critics the epic movie is enjoying, box office analysts are forecasting that King of Thieves could be Nollywood’s only third film to cross the 200-million-naira mark in the past two years, the others being ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’ and ‘Christmas in Miami’.
‘Agesinkole: King of Thieves‘ distributed by FilmOne Entertainment is still showing in cinemas across the country.
