Nigeria is a nation blessed with diverse cultures and languages. In a bid to promote the rich culture of Nigeria, Nollywood filmmakers have saddled themselves with the responsibility of making movies that paint pictures of the Nigerian culture.
For this weekend’s TFC Lists, here are five Nollywood movies with cultural connotations you should see this weekend.
1. The Milk Maid
‘The Milkmaid’ is a 2020 Desmond Ovbiagele produced by Danono media. A Fulani milkmaid searches for her younger sister in the middle of a violent conflict. She is forced to approach the militant group responsible for separating them and must try to find her while avoiding the violence around them.

2. Foreigner’s God
With initial release ins 2019, ‘Foreigners God’ follows the story of an English documentary photographer searching for a story falls for an accused witch living in subhuman conditions in colonial Nigeria.
Directed by Ifan Ifeanyi Michael and Toka McBaror, the movies stars Ini Dima-Okojie, Pete Edochie, Nancy Isime, Toni Tones, Paul Sambo and others. ‘Foreigners God’ is currently streaming on Prime Video.
3. Riona
‘Riona’ (Riy-OW-Naa) is an Africa Magic original period drama set in a 12th Century Itsekiri kingdom directed by James Omokwe. It stars Big Brother Naija season 1 housemate, Frank Konwea, Elvina Ibru, Najite Dede and Mimi Chaka.

Rebellion looms as King Otokun does all he can to stop a dark prophecy from getting fulfilled: that a child born under the rising of the dark moon will take his life. 4. Esohe
‘Esohe’, is a 2018 Nigerian epic fantasy thriller film co-directed by Charles Uwagbai and Robert O’Peters and co-produced by Robert O’Peters.
The film stars Jemima Osunde in the lead role along with Jimmy Jean-Louis. Oghenekaro Itene, Omo Godwyn Williams and Chris Attoh made supportive roles and an ensemble cast. The film revolves around Gary Barbar, who suffers repeated nightmares and later unveils the reincarnation and reunion of Ifagbai, the son of Eghosa the Oba’s warrior, and his long-lost lover, Esohe.

5. Itura
Directed by James Omokwe, The kingdom of Ibaokuta is led by the beloved king, Jagungbade. He desires peace and prosperity in his empire, but the fates have more in store. Forbidden love and deadly ambitions in this epic drama.
