TFC Lists: 5 Nollywood Emotional Movies To See This Weekend


Nollywood movie producers and directors have given us an immense amount of super emotional hits, be it any genre, with elements of happiness and sadness, which is to remind us that the world is full of ups and downs.

There are times when our soul desires to watch happy and cheerful movies, and other times sad and soft movies. And sometimes, what we need is a good cry.

For this weekend’s TFC Lists, here are five Nollywood emotional movies that can toy with your emotions. Hard guy, right? Try these movies!


Directed by Chineze Anyaene, IJE follows the story of Chioma who left Nigeria for the USA to help her sister that was accused of killing three people including her husband. She is determined to keep her from jail but requires the truth.

The 2010 movie stars Genevieve Nnaji; Odalys García; Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde; Jeff Swarthout; Clem Ohameze; Ulrich Que. IJE is currently streaming on Netflix.


Raised in poverty by her single mother, a virtuous young woman falls head over heels for a man who is keeping secrets. Black rose is a 2018 movie directed by Okechukwu Oku and is streaming on Netflix.


The Kunle Afolayan’s direction, written by Tunde Babalola and distributed by Netflix is an emotional story of a bright student in Nigeria who takes on the academic establishment when she reports a popular professor who tried to rape her.

Citation is a movie that featured First Bank’s Chairperson – Ibukun Awosika alongside Joke Silva, Temi Otedola, Jimmy Jean-Louis amongst others. Citation can be seen on Netflix.
